Laikipia County Assembly Speaker Lantano Labaala risks losing Sh15 million in allowances if it is established that he forged academic papers.

This comes after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission raided his Nanyuki home amid ongoing investigations into the allegations.

The graft agency said the raid was in line with a court order that allowed its officers to search the residence of Lantano as it investigates whether he used fake certificates to secure the job as the Speaker.

Lantano’s office at the County Assembly within Nanyuki, the County Assembly Service Board offices in Nyahururu and the HR office in Rumuruti were also raided.

According to EACC, the operation has yielded valuable evidentiary material that will support the ongoing investigation, which is at the tail end.

The Commission will also seek to recover the salary, allowances, and benefits paid to the suspect, approximately Sh15 million, for the period between October 2022 to date.
