Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has assured residents of Mt Kenya that the region stands to gain significantly from President William Ruto’s administration, citing ongoing projects across key sectors.
PS Muthoni, who led a team of more than 30 senior government officials to a public engagement forum in Kirinyaga County, said the President’s commitment to the region is rooted in promises made during the campaigns and not political expediency.
“Our people must remember we voted for our President, and he remains loyal to his covenant with us. The people of the mountain are represented in government, and we are working to ensure that your interests are fully safeguarded,” she said.
The delegation, comprising parastatal directors, board members, CEOs, and government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, is spearheading a series of forums under the Jamii Imara Mashinani initiative. The meetings are designed to showcase the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record while giving residents an opportunity to interact directly with state officials.
In Kirinyaga, the second such event after Murang’a a fortnight ago, speakers outlined interventions in agriculture, health, and infrastructure aimed at uplifting the region.

Lucy Njeri of the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) said reforms were underway to guarantee better returns for farmers. “We are on course to improving coffee and tea prices. Starting next week, we will register farmers afresh to train them on modern methods that will open up European markets,” she explained.
On health, PS Muthoni highlighted reforms to improve patient-centred services, noting that the proposed Patient Safety Bill seeks to guarantee quality and accountability in hospitals. She warned facilities against charging for services at levels 2 and 3, reminding them that the President had directed such services must remain free.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura urged Mt Kenya leaders and residents to shift focus from politics to development. “2027 is still far. The government is working for you now, and this region remains at the heart of the President’s agenda,” he said.
Officials who spoke at the event, including Jane Wanjiku of NEPAD/APRM, acknowledged challenges but maintained that the administration is steadily making progress. “We know we are not perfect as a government, but we are a work in progress,” she noted.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Kenya Kwanza administration to rekindle grassroots support in the Mt Kenya region, with forums expected to continue across counties in the coming months.
