Homa Bay Majority Leader, ex-Speaker clash over Wanga's performance

Homa Bay County Assembly Majority Leader Richard Ogindo has clashed with former Speaker Julius Gaya over the performance of the county government.

Gaya has been going around Rachuonyo criticising the administration of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

The former Speaker claimed that Wanga’s administration had failed to deliver election promises.

He further alleged that the county government was frustrating workers.

But Ogindo termed Gaya’s accusation as political malice.

The Majority Leader accused Gaya of being used by a group of politicians who were against Wanga’s administration.

Ogindo said Gaya was spreading disinformation aimed at tainting the county government.

“Gaya is a messenger of a group of politicians who intend to rival Wanga in 2027. They keep coming up with one issue after another to win the confidence of Rachuonyo voters. But I tell them that the people will not heed to their direction because they are liars,” he said.

The Majority Leader defended Governor Wanga’s administration, saying it had achieved significant development milestones.

"The bursary allocation has been increased, and there are many other development projects. The critics are wrong to say this government is performing poorly,” Ogindo said.

He accused Gaya of failing to run the county assembly when he was the Speaker. 

Ogindo claimed that the county assembly received the worst audit report in 2023/2024 financial year when Gaya was the speaker.

However, when contacted the former Speaker declined to respond to Ogindo’s accusations.

“I cannot respond to Ogindo’s allegation because that will make me stoop too low,” Gaya said.
